Final Video - Music Evolution

ARTIST STATEMENT

For the last assignment, we are required to made a video based on the theme: “Time and Space” so I decided to make a video using Adobe After Effects CS4. I choose four diferrent decades which is 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and current generation of music. Firstly, I choose top three songs of 70’s which is by John Lennon (Imagine), Led Zeppelin (Stairway to Heaven)  and Aerosmith (Dream On). I created the “beat hearts” but in a bit of rhythm which mean I want to say that on 70’s,  the concept or the space for music to expand worldwide is not too wide and less known by people. After that, I choose top three songs of 80’s which is by Michael Jackson (Billie Jean) and (Beat It) and from Guns N Roses (Sweet Child O’Mine). Also I created the “beat hearts” for the 80’s but I add on little bit of rhythm which mean the evolution of music created by some known artist are increase. The same step I repeat of doing for 90’s songs which is I choose Nirvana (Smells Like Teen Spirit), Backstreet Boys (I Want It That Way) and from Spice Girls (Wannabe). This time, the rhythm of “beat hearts” become faster. 90’s known with the band boys, group artist or duet so that the chances for explore about music and expand is widely open and can acceptable by people. For current songs, I decided to choose top three songs from Flo Rida ft Sia (Wild Ones), Rihanna (Where Have You Been) and Skrillex (Rock N Roll). The rhythm for the current songs is become faster than before. It shows that the music nowadays or new generation are widely using music as their space to explore the world and to express theirself.

ARTIST STATEMENT

For the last assignment, “Time and Space”, I choose topic about music and my artwork title is “Music Evolution”. I choose 4 different decades which is 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and current music or songs. I traced the different artist or musicians to show the differences of music evolution which is I choose John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Backstreet Boys and Skrillex. John Lennon is represent for 70’s. He’s the famous artist on that decades with his song called “Imagine”. The reason why I choose grey as a background for 70’s era because I think that decades are black white, I mean like black and white screen and old school. Plus, it represented the space for music at that time is not too wide and less is known. Next, I choose Michael Jackson to represent for 80’s. He’s known with the songs like Beat It, You’re Not Alone and many more. I choose the white colour for 80’s because I think that, that decades were commencement of time produced many new music generation and that is where commencement the originality of music industry. For 90’s, I choose Backstreet Boys as my subject because for me 90’s era were famous with band boys, group or duo such as Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child, Metallica and many more. Backstreet Boys song, “I want it that way” is the top songs for 90’s. I choose the purple background because purple represent as a unity. As I said, 90’s were famous with band boys or group artist which is I want to highlight it is a combination of group members united to make an album, the songs and other music industry stuff. Last but not least, I choose Skrillex to represent for the current music evolution. The red background that I put because for me red colour is represent for extreme , mainstream and wild. Skrillex is known with the dumbstep music which is it’s too extreme and wild for our generation but this kind of music are acceptable for young people like us to express ourself. The typography that I used is “music” and “evolution”. Word of “music”,I used digiface wide medium because this type of font looks like digital and it’s suitable to represent the time for music evolution. While the word “evolution” I used the font Usuzi Italia. The moment when I saw this font, I felt that this font can represent the meaning of evolution itself.

Final Assignment Briefing

On the 8th Auguts 2012, we got briefing for the last assignment from Dr.Forest and Mr.Bad which is we have to produce a non interactive media art project to enhance / express words and meaning and our themes is about Time & Space.
